- This DVD has a very short runtime and is nearly useless. Grand Master Jong Soo Park does not spend very long on each style and only looks at a handful of the common tactics employed by practicioners of the other styles (karate, MMA, etc.).
- Agreed, runtime is about 40 minutes and Grandmaster Park goes over some basic counters to a couple common attacks from each style. You may get some drill ideas from the material presented here for training against each of the styles, which is good, but I'd say it's probably not worth the price. Too short and too basic with not enough dynamic energy in the video. One other thing that could have made this video better is subtitles as Grandmaster Park is sometimes difficult to understand. The DVD also promises much in terms of each styles weakness, Taekwon-Do's strengths, etc. but it fails to deliver anything extraordinary. Depending on your instructor and training background, you may pick up one or two things.

2 comments about General Choi Hong Hi, Founder of Korean Art of Tae Kwon Do -D.
- I was disappointed with this DVD. It reminded me of a home video. Choppy editing, variable volume. Most of the time was spent on an interview with General Choi Hong Hi, founder of taekwon-do. I had a hard time understanding it without subtitles and the interviewer clearly didn't understand what General Choi was saying, either. It was embarrassing to watch. I enjoyed seeing some of the patterns performed back in the 1960s, but if that's what you're looking for, a better choice would be the 4 disc CD-ROM set Legacy: Taekwon-do Multimedia Encyclopedia. It includes interviews with the General, all 24 patterns, the entire 15 volume Taekwon-do Encyclopedia, and 200 Korean words related to taekwon-do. Highly valuable for any student.
Bottom line is, I was hoping this DVD would make a nice addition to my small collection, but I'm considering donating it to the public library.
- This is a really great video for any TKDist's collection. The whole video is about 85 minutes long and it starts off with a very good 55 minute interview with General Choi on a variety of topics, especially on his vision for Taekwondo. He discusses his time in Japan, in the Japanese Army in Pyongyang and in prison in North Korea. He mentions his background in Karate and mentions that his "study" of Taek Kyeon only really covered 1 or 2 "movements". For those who have an interest in the History of Taekwondo (beyond the "whitewashed" histories that so often appear), this is a great resource. Granted, you will have to patiently listen carefully to General Choi to understand exactly what he's saying but it's worth the effort.
It continues with a view of General Choi's home routines, including his stretching and exercises as well as some body hardening techniques he does. It also has a nice "walk through" of his trophies and awards.
The final section of the video is composed of a variety of demos, featuring GM Park Jung-soo and others. There is great footage of the Chang Hon Forms, breaking demos, Hapkido-esque self defence and even some techniques done on the knees.
Overall the interview is very fascinating and the extra clips alone are worth the price of the video. Highly recommended for serios students of TKD, and it's a nice companion to "Early Masters of Taekwondo" available from the same source.

5 comments about Tae Kwon Do Chung Do Kwan Basic Techniques.
- Haven't viewed the dvd yet since I am giving it to my son for Christmas but was happy with quick delivery.
- It's a good DVD for beginners. I like when the forms are shown
simultaneously from two different angles.
The self defense part is useful. Also, the teacher is good at demonstrating
how to break fall.
- I bought this as a way to help me practice the basic maneuvers of TaeKwonDo in between the classes I've been taking. The way we are learning in class is far different from what is being taught on the video, and I have to say, the instructions in the video are a little sloppy.
First off, the students and the teacher use poor transitions from movement to movement, and often leave the body exposed. They also have a habit of throwing their blocks very nonchalantly, and that can be dangerous if you're practicing this seriously.
The intermediates are far different from what I'm being taught in class, and the terminology is different as well.
There are a few flubs in the movements being demonstrated by the students, and there are a couple of times where the instructor actually walks on camera and repositions them mid-take. Why not just have them re-do it the right way?
This video does earn points for having clear narrations, and for having good views of the movements being performed by the instructors, I'm just not sure they're being done as well as they could.
- I have met Mikhail a number of times over the years as we train from the same lineage of instructors. What some buyers should be aware of is that the techniques contained herein are mainly from Tae Kwon Do in its most traditional sense, and has little to do with modern Olympic Tae Kwon Do. If you are a student studying the traditional forms as Chung Do Kwan founder Won Kuk Lee taught, such as the Pyong-Ahn and Kuk-Mu family of forms, then you will get value out of this DVD.
- This will only help if you have been training taekwondo for a month.Nothing your master can`t teach you.

4 comments about Total Self Defense Technique for Women.
- Total Self Defense technique for women
This is an excellent video to introduce you to self defense. The techniques are presented in a manner that is easy to understand and follow. The techniques are followed by a workout that can be modified to be easier or more difficult. With practice, I hope to do the workout without modification! Thank you Master Lee! I particularly like that dipping push up move that is in the workout!
Master Lee will show you the proper way to punch, strike and kick. He also stresses some important "rules of engagement" to help you understand how to be safer.
I will be recommending this video to my family, friends and associates.
- Master Lee presents "Total Self Defense technique for Women". Right away, you will want to join into this program. Master Lee's calm voice and great expertise is evident as he narrates each move while he works alongside his partner, Ysenia to illustrate the technique. This program is compiled especially for women and does not make unrealistic demands. Master Lee teaches that in any situation awareness is the key to self defense; avoid using force which can become risky, escape if possible without fighting, and of course keeping in shape is also vital whether the intention is to escape or to deliver a move in self defense.
In this program the defense maneuvers are categorized so that they may be learned easily and with much repetition, each move will target the body part with its corresponding defense pattern.
It is categorized as follows:
Prime groups of attacks eyes, groin knees, takes the target down right away
Semi prime- nose neck stomach risky because the attacker can tolerate the pain
Regular targets- Chin ribcage feet riskier also because the pain is tolerable
Learning strikes
Striking technique -using punches
Using fingertips to target the eyes
Palm hand back fist and elbow
How to properly make a fist to execute a good punch.
Using the strong knuckles of the hand so that the weaker knuckles are not broken
More effective is the palm hand which delivers a stronger blow (as in martial arts)
Learning to use the body and shifting the weight to give strength to the strikes, while rotate the hips and extending the arms, also coordinating the different strikes to designated body parts
For example:
Executing Kicks
front kick( barefoot) using the ball of the foot. or with shoes,
roundhouse kick using a pivot to rotate and the top of the foot
side kick, using the outer aspect of the foot as a blade for striking
Eventually there is a combination of moves; also includes escapes, twists and throws.
Master Lee presents a short psychological segment on handling a situation during attack.
The program comes to conclusion with an intense body strengthening routine, in three different sets which become more intense and rigorous, so if you are not in shape, the lunges, squats and crunches will be very challenging. Proper knee placement in hip rotations and lunges is assumed.
With continuous drills and repetition, this detailed technique will prove helpful in escaping or defending yourself from an attack. It is up to you how much you want to invest in your personal safety. Expect the unexpected and be prepared with this great, challenging, and valuable life saving program.
-
This is a superbly detailed instruction DVD for self defense techniques one should learn, even if hopefully you will never have to use them. In fact, if you know these techniques, you might exude the confidence and strength that would deter any attacks, and keep you safer.
Master Lee says that awareness is the best self defense. Always know what is going on around you. If someone does attack you, Lee shows you the best ways of getting away from someone's grip. If that fails, you have his great teaching on kicking, punching, and striking, and all the target places that do the most damage to the assailant, and not to you (like punching with your fist can hurt your own hand).
There is also a excellent workout section that includes strength and stretching exercises, and technique drills. Master Lee is Captain and Trainer of the Korean Tigers, and is tops in his field of self defense techniques. In "Total Self Defense Technique for Women" Lee is ably assisted by Yesenia Adame. They make an attractive, dynamic pair, and make learning the basics of self defense easy. Lee also advises to keep in good physical shape. If we follow his advice, and practice these workouts, we'll be ready for whatever comes our way. Look out world, don't mess with us...we've learned our lessons from Master Lee!
- The title is misleading. It shouldn't be called "Total Self Defense Technique for Women" but "Some tips and a few basic uncontextualized self defense techniques for male or female adults". Master Lee seems to know his business, but the regular woman in the streets is not a highly trained martial artist and might not be in great shape as his assistant is. By the way, that was the most interesting part about the DVD, the girl who performs as an assistant is beautiful and has a gorgeous and extremely fit body.

4 comments about Tae Kwon Do: A Visual Guide to Forms.
- As a long time Tang Soo Do and Tae Kwon do practitioner (and someone who struggles with remember all the forms) I found these DVD's to be a huge help in my training. It's extremely easy to navigate the menu's and the material presented is superb. Well worth the price to have instant access to all my required forms. The forms all look crisp and it's easy to follow along step by step. Even if you know your forms well, this DVD is a must have as a refresher course. It's great just to watch and see the forms done so well! I got both DVD's and I'm very happy.
- I am a 2nd Dan practitioner of the Moo Sool Do system and an instructor of children and adults. This DVD has proven an excellent reference when I want to check on fine details for forms. We study both Tae Kwon Do and Tang Soo Do forms so there is a lot to keep track of. I have found that the best way to find information on a form when there are no masters present is to stick in the DVD and simply choose the form I want from the menu. This DVD works much better than reference guides I have in book form because you can see every movement and transition easily. I would recommend this product to anyone looking to purchase a DVD of Tae Kwon Do poomse.
- I cannot recommend this video highly enough for anyone studying USATaekwondo forms. This video is professionally produced, and shows the forms from all angles.
- If you are just reviewing or learning forms, these videos Tae Kwon Do: A Visual Guide to Forms and Tang Soo Do: A Visual Guide to Forms are an excellent resource. I have never seen forms preformed with this level of precision. I love the fact that Kevin executes each form with a slow motion option and from different view points. If you are a white belt or a 7th Dan all can benefit from these DVD's. Thank You Kevin Nilson!
