  1. This video shows Thai boxing as the sport has developed in Thailand. The action-packed fights are quite entertaining and the overall quality of the video is very good. The traditional music that accompanies the bouts is presented in this video. I highly recommend it for serious students of this art.

  1. This DVD is the 1st volume on Colonel Amnat Pooksrisuk's bareknuckle muay. This is an older version of the modern ring thai boxing/ muay thai.
The DVD runs for around 80 mins & is based on an edited seminar given by Col Amnat. I felt there was very little, if any, filler on this DVD.

The DVD goes through the principles and foundations of muay. Practical examples are given for each of these and these applications are built on in the 2nd volume.

Col. Amnat demonstrates many drills & footwork drills throughout. Some of these have greatly clarified my notes from my own training in Thailand regarding exterior/ interior line.

I really enjoy watching this DVD & a short viewing always end up in watching it to the end. On the basis of this DVD I bought the 2nd volume (reviewed later).

  2. This disk is part of a two disk set featuring Colonel Amnat Pooksrisuk, a member of the World Muay Thai Council and a career solider who graduated from the US war college. I decided to review both disks together, because anyone serious about learning the basics of bare knuckle Muay Thai should consider getting both.

The DVD's to a great job in laying down the basic foundation behind the bare knuckle arts of Thailand. Although the Colonel has a think accent, his instruction is very clear. I've heard BJJ guys from Brazil that were worse, so it really wasn't an issue.

Vol 1 lays the foundation & gives basic principals and techniques. Vol 2 focuses on skill development exercises that help build the physical structure behind the techniques. Both disks have solo exercises that remind me of the RMAX biomechanical movements Scott Sonnon teaches. For example, opening & closing your fingers "with intent" has made my grip much stronger. I can make a much tighter fist than before - something important for bare knuckle or MMA fighting. It's amazing that something so simple can make such a difference.

He even teaches a defense similar to the Crazy Monkey/shelling technique a lot of MMA guys have used the past few years. Funny to think that a defensive structure hundreds (thousands?) of years old was a fairly recent development in modern MMA. I was also surprised to see the Colonel teaching the looping punch used by MMA fighters like Chuck Liddel & Fedor, as well as footwork to set up strikes against the takedown. He also covered techniques to break the Thai neck clinch that I haven't seen before - some of this stuff could've saved Rich Franklin's belt & nose when he lost to Anderson Silva.

MMA fighters really need to get both disks. The techniques & training methods could have an immediate impact your striking game. If you are serious about the finer details of bare knuckle striking, this is the set is for you.

Filmmaker Vincent Giordano publishes a newsletter called The Vanishing Flame, which covers the martial arts of Southeast Asia. He has other interesting DVDs as well, including some with bareknuckle matches. [...]

  1. This DVD has a very misleading "Ultimate Fights" title. It seems just like 7 random fights they slapped together to put in a DVD. It's hard to get into the fights because they do a poor job of introducing the fighters and the fights, and the commentators are horrible and barely audible. It also contains shameless self promotion of Muay Thai gyms and equipment. Very amatuer product. Not recommended.

  2. I've seen many tapes, dvd's on Muay Thai, but I think this is the best so far. I've heard of some of the fighters, this is the first time I saw them fight. They made difficult and explosive techniques seem easy. It gives me motivation to train even harder.

  3. This is a very good 7 Muay Thai fights by legendary fighters, while in their prime. Of course, most of these are now retired at the ripe old age of 26 or 27. Muay Thai fights take a lot of toll on the fighters. And these guys started fighting since they were 11 or 12. A few of them now living and teaching in the U.S. and Europe. If you're expecting to see just brute force, this is not a DVD for you. Techniques, timing, and years of experience are what you will see on this DVD. Four stars for each incredible knockout. One extra star for the English commentation thruout the DVD.

  4. i liked the video. chatter from the commentator's is a little vague sometimes, but not bad.

  1. See my comments for tape 1 in the series. The same positive and negative statements apply here except the techniques are different.

This tape/DVD covers kicks: roundhouse and front. A point brought out was that in Muay Thai there are no "snap" kicks from the front leg as in karate. All kicks are power kicks delivered from the rear leg.

Also covered were knee techniques, sweeping techniques and blocking of punches.

  2. This video is awesome great views from every angle. Video was better than i expected and is great for beginners. I was very satisfied with the condition that i recieved the disk in from the sender. (no scratches whatsoever). I would recomend this disk to anyone interested in Muay Thai.

  3. Mater Saekon Janjira training drills work every well and are very easy to learn.

  4. Not a bad video.. The audio could have been done better but overall great.

  1. This DVD runs for around 120 mins & is based on a edited seminar given by Col. Amnat Pooksrisook. I have reviewed the 1st volume elsewhere on this site. In that volume, Col. Amnat breaks down the principles & foundations of his style of bare knuckle muay. In this volume there is a lot more application. The DVD begins with a lengthy warm up which are then used in effective (& often nasty) applications. As with the previous DVD, Col. Amnat emphasises caution with some of the techniques.

Similar to the 1st DVD this is very watchable. This DVD does not require other DVDs but the 1st volume does go into greater detail on the use of the triangle (for example). Again footwork is drilled repeatedly with & without a partner.

Overall I enjoyed this DVD, it has little filler. Both DVDs have illuminated my training notes from when I have trained in Thailand (at ring thai bxg) & filled in some gaps in my knowledge.

5 comments about Muay Thai Master Saekson - 4 DVD Set.
  1. If you want to learn Muay Thai I highly recommend you to buy at least DVD 1 & 2 from this collection.

Excellent sound & picture quality . Very easy to understand Master Saekson and also good side angle shots to clarify points. DVD 1 & 2 are excellent for the beginner and you could easily "work in" with them to get you started and get your routine up and running.

DVD 3 & 4 give general training/conditioning tips and would probably suit someone who is going to put alot of time in and become a serious fighter or once you have been training for sometime and want to explore the system and conditioning aspects further (However, very useful if you have not trained before and have no idea how to work bag/pads or put combinations together or just have a lack of imagination).

However, still a bargain for all 4 and the delivery was about 2 weeks before target.

I have been training in martial arts for 15 years (Karate, Dim-Mak and boxing) and recently became interested in Muay Thai (this is down to the fact that it is a proven fighting system, see NHB and UFC for good examples of real world aplication and you can now get good instruction/information). I have a couple of the 4 and 5 star rated books from Amazon and various other sites on the subject and as I have a good understanding of various MMA's train at home - whilst the books are very good, being able to see the full range of movements in the DVD's goes way beyond what the books can do. DVD's 1 & 2 are excellent for this - all the basic's are made very clear along with the slightly different techniques used in Muay Thai - explaining how the skinny guys get so much power into their punches and kicks!!!(lol).

I highly recommend these DVD's and The Underground Guide to Warrior Fitness by Ross Enamait (for Strength and Conditioning tutorial) and a good back up wrestling or Brazilian Jiu-JitSu DVD i.e Gracie Brothers release. You would then have a "real world " fighting system and full knowledge on how to train/strengthen your body without buying expensive gadgets/weights or cardio equipment etc.

  2. This Is Bye Far The Best Muay Thai Video Out there thus Far
Master Saekson Breaks everything down to the Bar basics to advanced teckniqes. If you need Reference material to expand your nolege in Muay Thai this is it. Its worth every pennsy

  3. This is a great DVD set for begenning Muay Thai. The first DVD walks you through the basics of punches, including jab drills, jab cross drills, Hook drills, punching drills with weights (so when you take the weight off your super fast and powerful).

The second DVD moves on to to upercut drills, kicking and elbow drills. Note that these drills are VERY well laid out showing proper footwork, proper punching/kicking techniques, proper punch/kick technique.

DVD 3,4 are advanced drills with bags and partners great for the next level after core training. Anyone interested in my original copy can let me now at [...] as I have recorded the series on my tivo.

  4. The contant of these DVDs is GREAT!!!!!!!!! However, all of these DVDs freeze on all my players and even my computer. I contacted the company and they did offer to replace them. However, I can not be bothered to rap them up, pay to ship them, and wait to see if the new ones do not freeze. I have heard from other people that they too have had bad experiences with DVD products from this company. That is too bad as it just makes folks not want to place any future orders for their items.

  5. This DVD although the quality is not picture perfect the information is accurate and detailed. If you continue to drill one step at a time even the most inexperienced person can good understanding on defense and offense. Definetly worth the price. Don't think about it.

  1. With the exception of Jet Li, Jackie Chan and (maybe) Chuck Norris, I haven't seen any really good martial artists on film that could hold my attention like the late Bruce Lee....that is until this film.

By no means am I saying that Tony Jaa is better than Bruce but he comes damn near close! The plot of this film isn't that complex but I have to say the action is great! Now, I want to see this other film that he did prior to this one called On-Bak: The Thai Warrior that many say was better than this film.

The extras that come with this set is as good as the film itself if not better. My personal recommendation is to watch the original/international version of this film before watching the U.S./theatrical version. Both are good but the original shows how the film was meant to be seen. I think both versions come with this set.

    Overall, its an enjoyable ride!

  2. It is a pity that Tony Jaa's skill is wasted on such a miserable movie. If at least it was flowing. But it is so boring! Thank God for fast forward. The only reason why I did not give it one star is because of Tony Jaa.

  3. if you like a story about honor and duty where the guy goes around breaking people this movie is for you. it's almost unbelievable what he does in this movie, then you rember that it's Tony Jaa.

  4. This was movie was so ridiculous, I'm not even sure where to start. I was a HUGE fan of the "Thai Warrior" movie, and was really excited to get this. This was bad, and I mean really bad. If you like Tony Jaa, don't bother.

In the first place, he loses his elephant. Now, I don't mean it runs away or anything. I mean, it's STANDING NEXT TO HIM at a martial arts show, and it wanders off on it's own. It's made even more ridiculous by the fact that he JUST BOUGHT a bell for it and had just hung it around it's neck.

Tony Jaa is amazing, I mean just amazing. But this movie just seems like set-ups for his aerial work, and some fighting. My friends and I laughed all the way through this, but it's a wearying effort even then. Pass this one up for sure

  5. Let me begin by saying the International version(disc 2) of the Protector is far superior to the US theatrical version. The story is arranged more coherently and it sounds more natural to hear the characters speak their native thai language. The action has to be seen to be believed;flips off walls, battles with 100 or more villains on bikes and the restaurant hidden stairway scene is just classic.Ive never seen a scene like it in a martial arts movie(It rewrites the book in my opinion).Sorry no wires, cgi, or unneccessary explosions here. Therefore the viewer can feel like he/she is watching a real action movie and not a video game.A lot of narrow minded people(brainwashed by Hollywood remakes)bash the plot of this movie having to do with finding a pet elephant.I know they'll be mad at me for my writing, but if they would take time and expand their tiny minds and read a book or learn about other culture besides reality tv and Britney Spears, they would understand the plot.In the country of Thailand, elephants are sacred and frequently kept as pets. So if someone stole your rottweiler you would want rip them a new hole right? Here you get more fight sequences than Ong-Bak with a very brutal(every punch, elbow,or knee in this movie is thrown with intent to kill) and ancient style of Muy-Thai.Besides the action this movie has beautiful cinematography and intriguing set pieces.I believe a person has to really appreciate how dangerous all of the stunts in this movie,at any point someones life could have been tragically ended.Tony Jaa actually hits the villains in this movie,vice-versa and all of this is done to give the viewer the feeling they are watching real fight/chase sequences.I wont spoil the plot, simply put as good as it gets for action movies.
