- blade is not carbon steel but stainless and wobbles so much it may fall out of the sword completely
- I've used this sword for Kung Fu practice and competition (Snake jian dao sword form, Southern longarm style), as well as for sword dance in dance concerts. It's well constructed, with a slightly flexible blade, and balances 3" ahead of the guard after I added a 32" tassel. My instructor (sifu) and my master instructor (sigung) approve of it, and I've won several gold medals with it in competition. The blade is marked "stainless" and is mirror bright (excellent for competition and stage), but is of an alloy that is resilient and tends to rust and must be kept polished. I'm extremely pleased with it!
- This sword is nice for display only, the body is too long while the handle is small and short which make it unbalance when practice, you can use to"cut" like broadsword but have hard time to "point" for a strike.
Don't recomended it...
- The sword is light, long and thin, making it very nice to look. Ii is also good for beginners to practice. However, I spent about 2 hours on pulling it out from the sheath which is too tight.
- spend a few more dollars and buy the Red Chinese Tai Chi Swords. It's only a little more and it is a much better deal! I bought both at the same time.

- I just recently bought two of these swords, both already had small cracks in the blade when I recieved them. The swords barely lasted 10 minutes of light sparring before blades split completely.

- Spend your money somewhere else. The swords were shoddy at best. There were none of the rubber/metal pieces that quality shinai have to reinforce the shape and disperse the impact. The four pieces of what seemed to be oak or something similar were glued together under the handle, which also happens to be where the wood shattered during use. Do not recommend.
For those looking for a bargain shinai for kendo, I can't see any school accepting something like this.

- The Swords when they arrived they looked nice but within a few Strokes of hitting them together like you are supposed to the wooden handle seperated from the pvc pipe holding one of the foam blades. I reglued the one using Gorilla glue and it held fine. A few days later the other one also seperated as they are only glued together. I reglued that one and things were working again. I now have to reglue them as the foam has come off the pvc piping and that needs to be reglued to that.
They are nice quality and would work great as practice swords if only the glue would hold. I was with my sons as they used them and the problems came with just general use nothing that should have caused them to fall apart like they did.
- They work great unless you are really out to do some damage, then the foam tends to come off and the entire blade end seems to fall off too. However, this is after about 6 hours of extremley intense fighting...fighting which most people would not do to each other

- Good quality wood for practice. It is a bit thicker, but that would makes it quite strong enough to withstand a few hard clashes. The only minor problem is that of the plastic/rubber hand guard at the handle which tends to come off loose, but its a minor inconvenience which I have seen in other similar ones too. Overall, good to practice around with, and learn new tricks as well. Feels quite comfortable in hands, and also gives u the feel of an old style way of practicing.
- I only use this bokken for practicing at home by myself, so it doesn't matter how it stands up against harder woods. It seems rather well made for the price, but I do have one complaint: it's about half the weight of bokkens we use in aikido at the dojo I practice at. Part of the point (for me) to practice at home was to increase my forearm and grip strength. I would say it is better to find a store where you can try one out first, or if you are a member of a dojo, order it through them (unless it's too expensive). Overall though, this isn't bad and will probably suffice for a while.
- The product arrived broken. When I talked to the original shipper I was told that a replacement would be sent. When it did not arrive I called again and was told that since I purchesed through Amazon I would need to contact Amazon. I have not been able to make contact with Amazon. No phone number or anything is posted. So, is Amazon going to make this right?
- I'm 55 and have always had a bokken since I was about 21 when I began my Karate training and this last bokken is by far the most well balanced, the hilt or tsuka if you will could be about 1 more inch in length and I dont have large hands, A bokken or a (live blade) always feels more comfortable in my hands when it is in the 12 inch area of length, just makes for more articulation of certain moves easier. My earlier bokkens were light weight, who knows what kinda woods with ugly knots in them. What I have here is a solid red oak all evenly grained with heft to it and little chance of splitting or chipping with the fine finish that has been put on it. Now if you give this to a youngster with no martial arts training,he's going to make a wreak of it in about 2 weeks, breaking bottles, trying to smash spokes out of bicycles and the like. better off just getting him a 4-5 foot piece of bamboo and let him have at it for fun, Ever wonder why they paint all the cheap bokkens out there ? to hide the knots and imperfections !

- I found this to be a great purchase, it has good balance and is very sturdy. Only gripe is the handle is a little smooth making it difficult to get a firm grip but grabbing some sand paper and just giving it a good rub will make this issue non existant

- This product really fit my teaching methods well. It helps my students to be familiar with long weapons, how to use them and defend against them. Because my students are kids from 5yrs - 16yrs. Padded sparring weapons help give them a safe learning experience that is close to real. It helps develop hand - eye coordination and 2nd nature response in the students.
