- Just purchased one of these bags, and thought it would be ready for use in no time. I was SO wrong.
First, I filled the base with sand. It tells you to use water but I thought sand would work better. No problems there.
Second, I screwed on the sealing ring. Not a problem at all.
Then came the flex neck. It was such a chore screwing it on, and it took at least 30-45 minutes. The directions made it out to be so easy...
Then I had to screw the connecting pole onto the flex neck. It was way harder than it should have been, and I know some people will have trouble with this.
Assembling the heavy bag:
Holy crap! Hardest part of the assembly. Again, I hate how the directions make it out to be so easy, but it's just really not. I wont go into detail, I'm just going to tell you all that it's the hardest part of assembly. Good luck, I guess.
My bag looks all deformed and unproportional (I guess I can fix it), but it's still a great bag and I will definitely enjoy using it once I fix the bag.
- This brand new "punching bag" broke on the fourth punch. I am not a professional boxer. Do not buy this.
- The everlast freestanding bag is not meant to be hit with actual boxing match gloves. It is a training bag. I think that is why there are so many reviews about the stand breaking. If you try hitting with a small boxing glove, first, you'll seriously hurt your hands and two the force on the bag is multiplied as the distance between your hand bones and the bag decreases thus dreastically shortening the stands life. You need gloves like these "Everlast Pro Style Training Gloves (Black) ". They don't have to be everlast but you have to make sure they are training gloves. That is the key, TRAINING GLOVES. And there shouldn't even be a choice between water and sand. Standing water is not healthy nor is it clean. Stagnant water draws tons of mosquitos. Buy 4 or 5 sand bags or double up some supermarket bags and go to the beach. Thats the only reason i'm not giving this five stars. Everlast should have known better. As for the training gloves, "It is strongly recommended that bag gloves are worn when using the EVERLAST Free Standing Heavy Bag" is written in bold on the assembly sheet. So to anyone planning on buying this product, be aware of what your buying.
- So far so good for this bag. I put 4 60lb bags of sand in the base and have not had any problems with "migration" like some of the reviewers. It is not loud either...if you assemble it correctly. Bag was a little hard to assemble...just read directions carefully and follow EVERY step (I had to reassemble it twice). I would recommend this product to a friend...good for venting frustration!
- I purchased the Everlast Freestanding Heavy Bag and am quite happy with it. It is a very good bag, for the price, and I found it to be exactly what I needed for me and my sons to use for TKD practise kicking and punching.
Assembly was straight forward. All parts were there, except one of the bolt heads still had 'slag' in it, and had to be tightened with a pair of pliars, as the hex key would not fit into it. (Ergo, 4 instead of 5 star rating). Make sure you line up that first 'seal disk' with the notched divits for a tight fit. :)
The foam was kind of difficult to get inside the bag, but eventually fit nicely and looked good. I had to step on the big round foam disk to make it sit all the way to the bottom of the bag (well, the top once it's put on the stand) and be flush, but it worked and made the bag smooth and nice looking.
I used five 50lb bags of kids play sand (they were $3.00 each and very compact bags) and instead of ripping them open, I managed to fit four bags beside each other (standing up position) and layed the last one on top of them. This way if I ever need to break the unit down and move it to another location, I will not be scooping sand forever!!
The bags fit perfectly, the weight is at the recommended 250 lbs now, and the unit will NOT move from kicking and punching (and it's on a carpeted basement floor), even with an adult kicking...there is just the right amount of 'sway/give' from kicks and punches.
VERY happy with this purchase.

- I like the size of this bag. It's big enough for myself and husband both to use at same time yet small enough it doesn't take up large storage space.
Easy to put together. Bag and stand seem sturdy.
- I have owned this item for about 5 years and it is still going strong. I use it for about 20-45 mins/ day about 4-5 times per week.
Bare knuckle or with gloves. I primarily do boxing workouts but it has seen its fair share of kicks, knees and elbows and never seen a tear or a worn spot.
The padding is about 4" thick and beneath is a solid plastic ring that alows you to adjust the height. This is also what keeps it from getting worn spots like a regular punching bag.
I used to work out at a friends house who had a 40lb everlast hanging bag and after a few months we tore it and had to hold it together with duct tape, which made us all sticky after every workout.
You can fill the base with water or sand, i have never filled it up all the way, but its pretty stable. If you cant use a hose and have it inside i made a funnel by cutting the bottom off of a 2 liter coke bottle and running back and forth to the bath tub with milk jugs.
Great product for anyone not wanting to drill holes in their ceiling to hang a regular punching bag.
- This bag seems fairly sturdy, but it does slide around when filled with water (on carpet in my case). I just hit it from one side of my room to the other and eventually back into it's corner. I bought mine in person for $100 (and no shipping), so you might want to look into that before buying online.
- I have used many of these over the years. Usually the powerline series, so I was a little worried this wouldn't be substantial enough. However, the base is very sturdy with water in it. This product will work very well for home use.
- I expected this product to come with a base. It did not, and no where on the site did it state that it was a partial product.

- I purchased this for my husband and he loves it. I had been searching for one for some time. This one was so reasonably priced. It appears to be well-made and exactly what he was wanting.
- I SHOPPED A LONG TIME FOR A HEAVY BAG. I LOOKED AT ALL THE TOP BRANDS. WHAT SHOULD I PURCHASE? WATER FILLED OR SAND FILLED OR NOT FILLED AT ALL. SHOULD IT BE COVERED IN VINYL, CANVAS OR NYLON, I HAD NO IDEA. I KNEW THE NAME TKO AND IT WAS THE LOWEST PRICED ( I KNOW ), BUT I LUCKED OUT. THIS BAG IS GREAT. THE BAG IS MADE OF CANVAS WITH A LITTLE NYLON RUNNING THROUGH IT. I'AM NO EXPERT, BUT I THINK VINYL IS MORE PRONE TO SPLIT THAN THE CANVAS OR NYLON. I WAS REALLY SURPRISED HOW WELL IT WAS MADE AND HOW GREAT IT LOOKS. IT IS FILLED WITH SOME TYPE OF SAND AND THE SEAMS AND ALL THE STITCHING ARE WELL DONE. I'AM GLAD I CHOSE THE 100 LB BAG, IT DOESN'T MOVE AROUND MUCH AND I WEIGH 220. IF IT DOES SWING TO MUCH FOR YOUR TASTES, IT HAS A RING ON THE BOTTOM THAT CAN BE ATTACHED TO THE FLOOR. ANOTHER NICE FEATURE NOT ALL BAGS HAVE. AFTER THE FIRST TIME YOU USE THIS I KNOW YOU WILL HAVE A BIG SMILE ON YOUR FACE. IT MAKES GETTING IN SHAPE FUN. BUY THIS BAG... YOU WON'T REGRET IT.
- If you want to perfect your boxing skills and get a great workout at the same time, this is the heavy bag for you. You'll be sweating like a sweathog after only about 20 minutes of punching and kicking. Excellent for a person who lacks a lot of time. Be sure to follow instructions and wrap your hands with handwrap first before putting on the gloves. In the long run, doing this will save your hands. Never hit the bag without hand protection.
The price is great and you can't beat free shipping. It would have cost me an extra arm and a leg for shipping 100 pounds to Hawaii. And believe it or not, I received the bag in one week. You can't go wrong with this one! This is a quality item. Get one now before they decide to charge for shipping!
- I bought this punching bag to release some pain and anxiety from my past and caused by my future, this has helped me do just that. Though life is hard it is worth breathing. I am soo glad God led my steps to this punching bag and most importantly to him. Though in a hundred years having this punching bag wont matter, I'm so glad I have him and he has me. God bless who ever reads this. Amen
- Awesome Bag! Great buy! Gave it as a gift and my friend he loved it.
Its big and heavy and it looks really mean.
I was a little skeptical about it being canvas at first (not the usual vinyl I always see) but in the end it turned out to be the best part.
Definitely worth the cash I payed for it.
Just make sure you have a good place to secure this, or buy a rack for it.
My friend didnt fasten it correctly and it fell several times (It was ultimately impaled on a mis-placed car part and tore). Plus if it falls on you, its going to hurt :(

- Great Deal!!! Very pleased with the product and the quickness of delivery. Recommend to anyone.
- The title pretty much says it all. The bag is solid and didn't get too soft even after a good amount of use. The big downside is that the metal clasps that are used to hang up the bag are of extremely poor quality and can't support the weight of the bag. One of the clasps actually broke in two and two of the others became bent beyond usability. All within about six months of use. Unless you're prepared to spot weld the clasps to reinforce them I'd look elsewhere for a heavy bag.
- Look out for bloody knuckles if you don't wrap up before hand. The canvas is great for toughening up the shins; ours is pretty bloodied. I haven't seen the clasps fail and while it's something to consider I wouldn't let that dissuade you from getting one of these. Cheap and sturdy. Bought mine at an authority on sports for like 80 bucks (100#er). Can't beat that!
Soak it down with water and let it dry and it becomes almost rock hard and even heavier, great again for thai boxing drills and toughning the shins up. Hanging should be well thought out though, especially if you soak the bag. Mount it against multiple joists or a VERY sturdy tree limb if you can manage it. Enjoy.

5 comments about Bob XL.
- I own two of these BOB's (Body Opponent Bag) one BOB & one BOB XL. They are great to practice striking specific areas of the body at full power and speed. BOB is a great addition to the heavy bag or better yet Muay Thai bag that every martial artist should own and practice techniques against.
The BOB XL allows strikes to the upper leg area with kicks, knees and batons for police academy recruit training. The only limit is working the body all the way around 360 degrees, you can not work the rear body, but can work the rear of the head for chokes and strikes.
- I purchased the body opponent bag (not the XL) to provide motivation and to compare its function to my old reliable heavy bag...BOB is terrific...however, whereas the heavybag is solidly hit when struck, BOB requires a little more finesse...the head gives easily and does not provide the resistance of a heavy bag...but this is good! Additionally, there is at least one DVD available which provides other methods of attack. I find I can practice choke outs on BOB. Overall, I would highly recommend BOB as a tool to add to your boxing/self defense/exercise regimen. (This review was not based on the XL. I would prefer to have the XL, however the guy without the trunks was more affordable!)
Reviewer's boxing experience: 40 years
- I'm not too big on free standing punching bags but the BOB is something special, a separate class all it's own. The rubber skin more closely emulates punching a real person than a regular heavy bag. It is comfortable to strike for long periods of time without requiring hand protection yet holds up to serious abuse from fists, feet, elbows, knees, or whatever you want to hit it with. Furthermore, the human-like shape really facilitates targeting. If you are purely a traditionalist you'll probably want a makiwara (striking post). If you're willing to embrace the best in a modern training tool, however, this mannequin bag makes a great investment. There are some really good BOB workouts in books like Loren Christensen's "Solo Training 2: The Martial Artist's Guide to Building the Core for Stronger, Faster and More Effective Grappling, Kicking and Punching." This is a fantastic training tool for any martial artist.

- This was a good buy at $29.95 the gloves feel good to both me and my son, and I have a extra large hands, good quality, plus a jump rope and wraps.
- Arrived after 6 days of the purchase (including one weekend) even with the supersaving.
The kit is just the one that I need. I use to practice Box in Mexico for a while and when I came here and saw this item I decided to return to the practice and is even better than the one that I used to use in Mexico.

- My 8 yr old loves it! Have had no problems with it (except it does take quite awhile to fill w/ the little manual pump)!
- This bag is much better than the normal bop bags as far as rebound action. The old style falls all the down to the ground an then SLOWLY comes back to standing position. This one much more like a real bag snapping back and not hitting the ground unless you hit it to hard of coarse. My kid's are 4 and 5 years and only use the bag SUPERVISED being taught PROPER punching/elbow/knee and kicking strikes!I would never leave this bag alone with them to thrash on , it would break real quick and with a h20 base ,not good.GREAT FOR YOUNG KIDS TO LEARN ON....(NOT BEAT ON) the key is always, learn to strike GOOD then worry about how hard...
- Excellent training punching bag for aerobic session. Do not expect hard punching out of it as it will burst. If you keep it low impact, is a great aerobic excercise!
- Upon inflating bag it started loosing air in about two to three hours. Put in a can of compressed sealant and have no problems at this time.
- This item is a great starter bag for basic kicks and punches learned in martial arts it is mobile and sturdy enough to gain form and accuracy when graduating to force you might want to get a heavy style bag.
Over all this is a good bag and lots of fun if used with a partner.
