  1. these claws are flawed in there design. they are intended for BOTH defence and climbing but they will not work for climbing the the upward pull of the tree and your weight on the claw causes the metal back to dig viciously into the back of your hand. teribly designed.

  2. I'm just starting out with my own ninja training, and despite what my friend Irving thinks we aren't anywhere near ready to take out a classified ad in Soldier of Fortune magazine yet. I think we should take at least one more summer Tai Chi class at the rec center first, especially since it's free for students. Anyway, I don't really feel qualified as a professional ninja or anything but I do want to let you know what I've learned about Ninja Hand Claws so far.

I had a cast party at my house for Drama club and my only pair of scissors literally *broke* while Irving and I were setting the decorations. Actually, I was setting the decorations while Irving played Hitman II on PlayStation, even though the cast party at my house was Irving's idea and he promised he'd help me out with things when he volunteered me for it. What a dope. I should probably explain that Irving and I are only in Drama club because we wanted some action, since there are a lot of hotties in Drama club and not too many other guys there that are even remotely interested in girls, if you know what I mean. Plus there aren't any football players in sight. This makes the ratio of normal guys to hotties a whole lot better than you typically see in the general school population. Just wanted to set things straight, which I also happen to be. So anyway while Irving and I are getting ready for this drama party, I set the scissors down to go get more crepe paper and Irving decided it'd be really funny to throw the scissors into my dart board, which I have to admit might have been funny except that he missed the dart board altogether and the scissors flew right into the side of my basement wall. When that happened the bolt right in the center of the scissors cracked in two and instead of a pair of scissors I had two individual scissor blades with completely impossible oval ring grips, not the sort of tool that you can use to make streamers or confetti, or even do any realistic Ninja knife-fighting or anything. Totally useless.

Fortunately I had my NINJA HAND CLAW available and Irving and I were able to hold several pieces of paper tight between us while I ran the claw length-wise a few times, making rough but functional confetti for the party. It really tore the paper more than cutting it, but finally we actually got a couple of buckets of confetti, which is exactly what we needed. The crepe paper itself for making streamers was way too thin for cutting with a Ninja hand Claw, but fortunately you can tear it pretty easily anyway and we were just being silly at that point. Considering our excellent decorations we had a completely successful party, except for one thing. Later in the evening Irving had been partying way too much and he plopped down on the waterbed with my Ninja Hand Claw still right there on the corner, popping the waterbed which completely ruined my chances of getting any action after the drama party, if you know what I mean. I mean, once your bed is soaking wet, and if your only other alternatives are old garage-sale bar stools and a bean bag with a hole in it and an old pool table, it's really kind of hard to make your move. Besides, everybody thought it was really creepy that I had a Ninja hand claw lying ON my bed, not IN my bed as Irving kept saying, but once the joke went around that Howard has a love glove nobody was listening to what I said about only setting the Ninja Hand Claw down there for a minute anyway. So because Irving was such a jerk all the girls got embarrassed and went home early, leaving me with Irving and a couple of those "drama queen" drama guys I was mentioning earlier. I was really hoping they didn't think Irving was serious about me using my Ninja Hand Claw as a love glove, so to underscore the point that I'm training to be a prefessional ninja I got a couple of throwing stars and sat there throwing them into my dartboard while they all sat and watched the E! channel, which Irving was totally into by the way. Hmmmmm. Anyway, these guys wouldn't take a hint about going home themselves until Irving started projectile vomiting on the stairs about an hour later. I swear Irving's my best friend but even I don't like him that much.

So anyway I don't know how well these Claws work for the practicing Ninja warrior but I can verify that they cut confetti really nicely. Just keep them away from Irving, or your waterbed and your reputation as a ladies man will be shot. Seriously. Plus Irving will probably fall asleep on your bean bag while you clean up the confetti, waterbed water, and human vomit, and you'll probably wind up sleeping under the pool table without getting any action at your own drama party. You ought to consider this very carefully before ordering!!!

  3. Though not purchased on-line [my set I've owned for over 20 years!] there's some speculation at to their use and how these fit overall into Taijutsu combat tactics...

Firstly, yes- the metal band that makes up the body of the devise has the excrussiating ability to dig into the practitioner's hands- hence most often padding is required either on the practitioner's hands or wrapped atround the devise itself- I managed to get around the "digging" issue by using a set of "Reactor gloves" [remember, this was the late 70s to early 1980s]that had built in padding along the fingers and back of the hand...

For combat tactics, it's best to remember that most tactical scenerios center around a person avoiding contact with the "enemy" [or bully or burgaler or mugger, et al...] and if one were to be wearing their "Tiger Claws" during an altercation with some ruffian or "enemy"- the slashing and tearing effect of the claws were simply as a diversionary and/or intimidation tool to keep thier attacker at bay long enough to effect a reliable escape.

With the exception of slashing, the back of the devise [provided the wearer's hands were gloved as mentioned earlier] could be used as a cudgel or "sap" in lew of any other weapon that may have to be brought out of a pocket or storage during a fast altercation.

Overall, an effective climbing devise [with obvious modification of either it or the wearer] but only a low to moderate close assault tool. If nothing else, they are a contemporized form of a tool from a by-gone era and an instumental learning example of the skill and strength that the Shadow Warrior of Iga and such provinces had to muster to survive their temultuous period of history

  1. As an entry-level ninja in today's weakened economy, I must watch my budget on equipment and supplies. I haven't yet qualified for health benefits, and the union for ninjas isn't the most effective, so I have little to back me up in case of a catastrophic injury. Although most assume I have the REAL ultimate power from the outset, being an entry-level ninja is a long climb to the top. So, for the ninja on the go, this is the ideal item for the price-conscious ninja needing an effective grappling hook at a price-point that won't offend your sensei or your sensibility. Just last week, I was infiltrating the offices of a large, multi-national bank on a small assassination mission, and - wouldn't you know it? -my old hook just snapped in two as I hoisted myself up to the 17th floor. I nearly fell a rather devastating distance to the ground. I am so glad I had this hook at the ready as a backup! I was able to hoist myself back to safety after a quick throw (most of my free time is, in fact, spend flying with the aid of this hook). I will, of course, buy another, now that my backup hook is now my primary hook, although I think that next time I scale an office building, I'll take the elevator instead. Or I'll just totally flip out, and that would be sweet.

  2. The manufacturer failed to mention that when you purchase this, you are automatically enrolled in the Hatano/Tokugawa clan war. I don't have time to deal with an honor dispute dating from feudal Japan, I have a job and things to do. I can't very well up and leave work because someone is trying to assassinate me. In all fainess though, I did not find myself at a disadvantage when I came apon dilemmas which could be overcome by a skillful application of rope climbing. Unfortunately this model doesn't hold up well to being submerged. I tried some deep-sea ascention, and now it just doesn't seem to work right anymore.

  3. This is a very fun item to have. The only problems i have had with it is the rope that it comes with is too hard to climb. i would suggest getting a longer rop and tying a knot about every foot or so on the rope.(depending on your reach with your arms and legs.) Other than that this is a great product, the hook stays locked in place very well and once you throw it where you need it it holds on tight! I would consider buying a second as a gift.

  4. This product is easy to climb the rope that it comes with is WAY to skinny it can hold you and you can climb it (if your strong) but its very hard to get a grip on the rope but all you need to do is buy a thicker rope but otherwise GREAT product it makes me feel like a ninja when i hop a 30 foot wall with no prob XD

  5. I've always wanted one and now I have a great grappling hook. Awesome product I recomend it to anyone looking to buy one.

  1. Excelent sword. really sharp, and nice sheath. seems to be one of the most practical swords on Amazon, along with the other full tang swords. the only problems is that the sholder and leg straps are hard to adjust and get on the sheath. another negitive is that it is still stainless steel, which is good but not as good as high carbon or spring steel, but still ok. great sword!
( handle is ok, but you could opt to cut off nylon and replace it with black wire tape )

  2. Nice lines for a shank ninja sword. Works well for rugged use in clearing brush. Not for combat or extreme applications. Cord wrapped handle will come apart after a moderate amount of heavy use. I've purchased a couple of these little swords and my first one broke in half after a very heavy (and unintented) impact with a brick. Still, nice lines and very heavy blade compared to similar models in this price range.

  3. This item is an inferior, cheaper version of Ontario's Black Wind swords. That being said, this isn't a bad item. Its makers certainly knew they were using inferior materials, and made the best thing they could anyway. The steel, while not very good, is thick and well designed for maximum durability. The scabbard is pretty useless for wear on the back, it's only good for its belt loop. It's also right handed only, which I find very stupid. It took a whole star off its rating. I threw the scabbard away entirely. Even if you're right handed, it's nothing special, and mine cracked at the edges the first time I drew the blade. Good sword for the price, very bad scabbard. If that's okay, get one.

  4. This United Cutlery version is much nicer than the similar slightly cheaper non-united versions.
Has a nice edge, full tang, has some curvature to the blade, and a nice angle to the secondary edge(tip).
It wouldn't be hard to 'razor edge' it for cutting exercises or just use it as is for other practice exercises ..of course be careful ;)

  5. I am not a big sword person. I don't collect them or anything. I like swords, just owning one was never a priority to me. I got an offer for free $30 bucks to use on amazon so I decided to get this. I like that it is shorter than a lot of the blades I see in various stores. The shorter length does add some usability vs a traditional katana or something like that.
It looks cool... I don't plan on taking on a group of ninjas anytime soon so that was the only criteria I used while shopping. Looks, and price.

The thing I don't get is how you are suppose to do the straps. There is no picture or instructions of any kind. There is a long strap that seems you are suppose to thread through the sheath long ways, and no clue what to do with the short strap.

I don't ever plan to wear it so that was not a big deal to me. If anyone can give me a link/picture to what it's suppose to look like I am sure I would figure it out.

  1. The handle is the cheap plastic expected, but it is a lighter gray than shown making it toyish. The blades are not sharpened. The colors do not shift around imo, more like a fancy paint job. The same areas of the blade will be yellow or pink or whatever, they do not move around the blade.
Painting the handle black would do wonders, but this is nothing but overpriced ornamental junk.

  2. My son loves it. It goes perfect with his Halloween costume. I think it's a bit dangerous with it's sharp metal points and edges (which he found cuts cardboard), and shouldn't be used by children without parental supervision. As a collectors item it's a bit pricey.

  3. this sword isnt as tough as i thought it would be, its def just for show. kind of flimsy, but looks good at least

  4. It's a great prop to have hanging in your room, though not really a defensive weapon, now I knew that before I bought it but I thought it'd be sharp, or strong enough to cut cardboard. It's very dull, and the blades are not symetrical, and the handle is not black but Gray, other then that I see nothing wrong with it.

  1. they are kwel but they wont stay on longer then a couple sec's without a velcro strap.otherwise it could make a good ninja weapon

  2. These are really just a novelty item and there priced that way. If you actually want something that will aid you in either walking on soft terrain or climbing something I'd suggest looking into buy either a pair of crampons, or tree spurs. Both items are different, crampons are closest to what these represent but the spurs will actually help you climb.

crampons - petzl makes good products as well

I don't own these so i can rate them but just an example of the climbing spurs

  1. I like the sword, but it is very badly made, there are a lot of mistakes and everything seems to fall apart, i know it's not supposed to be the best, but i didn't expect it to be this bad

  2. Well i sure got what i payed for, it looked toatly sick when i first took it out of the package, but minutes later the string that made up the handle cover had come unraveld so i had to use a hotglue gun to stick it back on, how lame is that? but besides that its pre-sharped and toatly deadly thou i can only imagine how bad the re-coil the thing would have if you hit something with it,(shudder) its realy just a single piece of steel(i hope its steel)with some string for a handle so youd REALY feel the vibration from any impact with it. my advice just use if for show.

  3. I thought it was going to be a piece of metal. I was originally going to give it to my little brother. But, after taking it out of the box, it was a bit more than I expected. I believe it could be a weapon of stealth. Something that can be used while you hide in the shadows. Not for those classic swordsman duels, for it probably wouldn't withstand direct attack. But it is practical, and sharp. I suggest buying it. Its worth the fifteen dollars. Trust me.

  4. This is not a sword, it is a cheap knockoff. It has a certain sharpness to it, but not enough to make it efficient at doing what a sword is supposed to do. It is also very poorly constructed. Buyer beware. Cheap Chinese knockoff, looks cool - but is useless as a weapon - useless.

  5. im not a sword enthusiast as most that purchase this type of item are; however i got it as part of a combat kit i keep for emergencies, and i must admit this was a nice addition for the price. as others said its not a dueling sword you arent gonna fend off many blade wielding attackers, however it does what it needs to.

i did have to sharpen it with one of those hand sharpeners, a few passes and it was good enough. the tip is extremely sharp out of the box, as are the serrated edges.

however even without a razor sharp blade it easily passed the watermelon test. one quick swipe and a clean cut straight through. (also an apple core. tossed and sliced in mid air)

only problem, thats been mentioned before, is that the cord wraped handle is display purposes only. my first no contact swing caused it to almost come out of my hand; my advice? get some grip tape (like for hockey sticks) and wrap it OVER the cord, ensuring complete handle coverage and you will fid that this is one decent last resort/close quarters/stealth weapon.

  1. the product arrived in a timely fashion, was well packaged, and was exactly what i expected.

  2. While I have never owned this product or another kubotan with a knife inside, I have owned a normal flat-tipped kubotan for about three years now and had professional martial arts/self defense/police tactics training with it for the first of those three years, so consider my background when you read this review...

While I fully believe a kubotan is an EXCELLENT thing to learn how to use for self-defense for men and women alike, I fully believe that a kubotan that unscrews to hold a knife is completely impractical. How often will you have the oppotunity to unscrew the cap for the blade or even flip a pop-cap version around to the blade before you're attacked? My guess is never. More than likely, you won't even know the attack is coming if they know what they're doing, and so you need an immediate (I wish I could underline the word "immediate" to show the gravity of that term...) response to the attack. I standard kubotan is much more practical and prevents the risks of accidental damage to yourself should you fumble with it in a moment of high stress.

My opinion, whether considered professional or not, would be to buy a regular kubotan and find a martial arts or self-defense instructor that is educated and capable to teach you how to effectively use it. I had a 4th degree blackbelt in "hybrid styles" (he owns his own dojo and was given his 4th degree by counsil decision, his 3rd degree was in American Karate) teaching me, so I can tell you from experience that you will come out of it with some pain and bruises, but also invaluable experience that could save your life one day.

  3. Came on time, good condition, very handy keychain knowing it could hurt someone really bad if attacked or something. I like it. thumbs up and don't leave home without it.

  4. The Kubotan I received is totally different from the one listed in the image in the product page. The blade is in silver not black, and is not sharp at all compared to my little Victorinox Swiss Army Classic Pocket Knife. Unfortunately I bought 2 pieces from this Kubotan. you should buy a normal Kubaton at least it is cheaper and you will get what you see.

  1. great ninja weapons. they good for fighting but not for climbing wich is what they where made for

  2. These things came to me in great condition. The only thing that I think is wrong with the claws is that they don't come very sharp, but I took a chizzle and scraped the tips for about 1 minute on each point and they were very sharp and very effective on climbing trees! Mainly what you need is a good pair of dirt biking gloves or some just regular winter gloves for the metal ring not to hurt your hands while climbing. That's what I use and it works great. I acknowledge you not to listen to the other reviews and make your own opinion. These things are a great pice of work and all it takes is a little bit of muscle!

  3. If you want to buy something that looks cool then get them. They are cheap so don't expect to be climbing 30 feet up a tree or trekking across a mountain. 1st off you don't use stuff like this for those types of actions anyways. If a ninja ever did use these to climb it was only a momentary pull because they help a little but they would have used good technique and not a hand claw to climb a wall or tree.
As for self-defense, the metal going all the way around the hand gives you a good area to fend of any sharp blades and if your good you can uses both hands and catch the blade with the spikes. Also the spikes may not be the sharpest but with a good scrape they will cut skin for sure and I'd wager that, that would be the main use of these devices.

*Note: For those of you wanting to climb tree's. You ideally use your hands very little climbing anything except for balance and maneuvering, everything else is in your core and legs. So do a little research on climbing techniques before you accidentally hurt yourself because free falling from 20+ feet hurts bad. Trust me I have done it and you don't just get up.

  4. These worked a lot better than I initially expected them to. I expected that I would have to make all sorts of heavy modifications, but no, for the most part they worked right out of the box.

There is the problem of the metal "ring" digging into your hand while climbing. This can be alleviated with minimal padding. I'm personally a bit light so I didn't need all that much to keep it from bothering me. Pretty much a pair of gloved with a little foam sewn onto the back did the trick.

Four stars because they work well without changing them, but I needed to buy some gloves to really use them.

  5. These "Ninja Hand Claw Climbing Tigers Spikes" are designed with the hard-working governmental employee in mind. Although some may doubt their quality of construction or practicality in the real world, I assure any doubtful buyers that these were the deciding factor in many of my recent assignments around the world. When my only escape route took me to a 20ft brick wall, I left my cyanide capsule in my pocket because I had these bad boys strapped to my hands. They work well both in cold weather (northern Russia) and hot weather (Australia) so next time you're called to go anywhere to kill anyone at anytime, make sure to put these "Climbing Tigers Spikes" in your bag!

  1. I bought this product to have fun but after a few days of climbing trees one of the prongs started to bend so it isn't very effective anymore. Although it looks cool, it isn't very effective for what needed to be done. Also, it only comes with about 20 ft of rope, not 33.

  2. The hook worked brilliantly. The only problem is that once I hooked in and started my climb, I noticed no matter how far up I pulled myself on the rope, my feet never left the ground. The rope is just to stretchy. Still, it was worth the price. With a new, thicker, less stretchy rope, it could be made into an elite ninja tool.

  3. No it's not titanium alloy or military-grade aircraft aluminum, but it works. The rope is garbage for climbing but you can use it for something else, and I got some good rope for pretty cheap at Home Depot. This hook works well--just don't throw it too hard against a hard surface as it may bend a bit. If you're going to be doing toss-and-climb with it, I recommend wrapping the hooks in a layer of cloth so as to reduce the shock on the hook if it makes a sharp impact (and to reduce noise!)

All in all, a good, cheap, fun little tool. I've scaled a few different buildings with it. I do recommend tying 'rungs' every 2 feet or so in your climbing rope to make it easier to climb.

  4. Item was exactly as described! Thank you very much. I bought it as a gift for someone and they've been extremely happy with the quality.

  5. The item was a joke-gift for the holidays. it came with a useless rope and in poor condition. As it was a joke and very cheap, I have no real complaints.
