  1. This is the simplest way to keep a keen edge on all of your kitchen knives. If you can't get a shaving sharp edge in a few passes, then it is time to take your knives to the professionals for sharpening.

The reality of keeping a good knife sharp is in the daily (or, at least frequent) maintenance of the edge. Once the edge is so far gone that these tools don't correct the problem - you need a professional.

If you use your knives daily - you may need a professional once a year - if not you may need a professional every 2-3 years. In between, this is the slickest sharpening system you can find - assuming that you don't want to become a pro at keeping the edge yourself.

Read the manual and keep the rods clean - or they won't cut.

  2. This ridiculous looking thing lives in my kitchen drawer, from which I occasionally remove it and sharpen everything in sight. I've owned it for more than ten years, and it has served me well.

Keen-edged knives are easily sharpened to an edge approaching that of a razor. It only takes a couple minutes per knife to restore a dull edge, but don't allow your knife to get REALLY dull, as it will take many minutes to get it back in shape.

The ceramic rods are held at the correct sharpening angle, which makes it easy for a beginner. The plastic guard keeps your hand safe, but remember to put you thumb under it too! I really like this sharpener. It is a good value and a durable product.

4 comments about Vinyl Shin-Instep Guard.
  1. I was actually looking for a product that has extra padding in the center. Even though this one doesn't have that feature it still works well. The material is resistant.
Good for light to medium sparring.

  2. I normally hate shin-instep guards because the instep portion is too long (interferes with pulling toes back) and the strap under the foot is too wide (being flat-footed, I'm used to having my whole foot grip the floor). However, these guards are great! The instep portion covers the instep and not the toes (which I consider a plus) and the strap is a good size and fits snug.

I use these for full contact training for which I consider them ideal. They have enough padding to prevent injuries but let some force through which provides great feedback. I highly recommend these guards.

  3. I kick people with them and don't get hurt. They stay on my legs. Pretty much sums it up.

  4. I got the wrong size. My bad, I guess. However, after returning the shin-guards my credit card was never refunded and neither Ringside nor Amazon has replied to my emails concerning the issue.

I should've just placed thirty dollars on the ground and lit it on fire.
