5 comments about Hardwood Jo Staff - 50", 54", 60", or 72".
  1. the Jo is a popular fighting weapon in the orient. It doubles as a fancy walking stick and can be displayed in a house as an artifact. Getting hit with this would probably be like getting hit with a brick because it is approximately an inch in diameter. this is a long weapon with some weight to it so it is best used for thrusting or using ones own motions against them. I had a friend who perhaps put it best when he said " I never thought paying 20 bucks for a stick could be such a good deal "

  2. I was pleased with how promptly the jo arrived after I ordered it.
The finish on the staff was not something I desired, plus it was a little rough, so I sanded the staff down and oiled it. It is heavier than the practice staffs at my dojo, and I enjoy that. When I brought in my staff everyone remarked what a great staff it was, where I bought it and how much it was. Best purchase I've made in a while, just needs some sanding.

  3. Very lightweight, fragile, and poorly finished. Not sure what the "hardwood" actually is. It looks oak-like, but is far too lightweight for it's size. It came a bit rough and splintery and only got worse over time. The lacquer or whatever it is that they finished it with developed spiderweb cracks almost immediately and then began to flake off. I only used it for kata; didn't feel safe actually hitting anything with it let alone using it to defend against a weapon for tandem drills. After a few months of very little use, mostly sitting on the rack, it began to develop cracks. Perhaps it wasn't dried properly when they applied the finish? Regardless, the one I received (50" model) was cheap junk. You get what you pay for... Not only not recommended, but downright dangerous if you hit anything with it. Spend a little more to get better quality.

  4. This was exactly what i expected and came in less that a week. Very happy.

  5. This bo staff is very solid. A little heavier than I expected but works great for Bo Staff drills. Received promptly and in great condition.

5 comments about 2 Natural Bokens Wood Practice Swords, Wooden Daitos Training Katana.
  1. This bokken feels heavier than my Japanese white oak bokken. It simulates the weight of a live blade katana made for tameshigiri (test cutting) more accurately. The sticker on the wrapping says it's "red oak" but I'm not sure if it's American red oak, Japanese red oak, or other. The description on here says it's just a generic hardwood. It's beautiful because it's highly figured but it's not suitable for all swordsmanship practice. It would be a nice display piece without the tsuba (hand guard). The tsuba is ugly and mine is bent so it's rippled around the edge.

I'd recommend it for solo cutting/kata practice but not for partner practice where it would have contact with another bokken, due to the grain of the wood not following the curve of the "blade" and/or knots (both of which create weak spots). For partner practice, I'd recommend a Japanese red oak (aka kashi) bokken at the very least or a Japanese white oak (shiro kashi) bokken which is more durable than Japanese red oak but is more expensive.

Even though bokken are safer than live blades, if they are swung with enough force they can break bones or cause internal bleeding (hence the warning in the description), so be careful. Think of them as skinny baseball bats and treat them as if they were live blades.

  2. I just got these swords today, and already I love them. They feel even weighted compared to my steel katanas, and from what I see they seem sturdy enough to last a long time. Only complaint was putting the rubber slip to the plastic tsuba took longer then I wanted. Also, the shipping was faster than estimated, which is a big plus.

  3. The moment i saw the box for these in my portch i was extatic, and when i got them out they were more than i expected. they fit comfortably in your hands and are the weight is as good as could be asked.

They accuelly come with one painted and one natrual stained, they are American Oak (witch is easily told by the natural one)

As for use, i havnt had a chance to try them with a partner yet, but they seem solidly built and tight grained, they should be able to handle coming into contact with eachother easily.

one downside is that the package comes with ALOT of packing peanuts, but otherwise no complaints

  4. I am 12 years old, and I like the two bokkens I got for my birthday. They are nice and solid and are good to practice with before you get a real sword. I reccomend that you get this product if you want a good practice sword.

  5. It was a worthy purchase on these two bokkens. The price was great and it sure beats using a makeshift stick. There was a free gift included as well--- something that remained in the martial arts vain.

    Thanks!

  1. I bought these for my 9 year old daughter and she loves them. They provide great protection for her when she uses the 70 lb Everlast bag that I also purchased. She has devised her own way of getting them on and off by herself (even though she never wants to take them off).

  2. Bought these for my great nephew (5 years old) - he loves wearing them when he's playing on his WII (or however that word is spelled).

I'm sure they outlast his wanting to "play" boxing.

1 comments about Hitsugaya Sword.
  1. This Hitsugaya sword is a great purchase. Don't be deceived by the picture though, the chord wrappings are dark blue, rather than Hitsugaya's classic light blue. However, the sheath with shoulder strap is pretty cool and you can really where the sword around.

The blade is a good quality, though it isn't sharp except at the tip. It is full size and full length for real katana fighting. Although the quality of the whole thing is not fully functional for real training, it is a great practice sword and looks great for cosplay.

The balance could be better, it isn't full tang, but I really do endorse this purchase. It is great for fans and/or collectors. And so much fun to use. It is probably the best bargain for a good quality Hitsugaya sword.

  1. the item arrived on time in perfect condition, it was exactly as they said it would be. i am pleased to say that i will definitely buy from this vendor again. thank you for the excellent service.

  2. S/M isn't a better choice for men's hand, please choise for a G/GG MMA Gloves to fit in Everlast Hand Wraps.

  3. Cheaply made, with little padding and no wrist support. I wear gel gloves under these. As soon as I can afford a better pair of bag gloves, I am trading up. These are not worth the money.

  4. I would give this item 4 stars if I had received what was pictured on the page. Instead the item received was Black with WHITE lining around the wrist strap and EVERLAST written on the wrist strap. There was a "E" above the EVERLAST on the glove that looks Tribal. I am 5'7' and weigh 170lbs with average hands and L/XL fits really well. But,right now I am upset that I didn't get the correct item. Please post the correct picture Amazon. Thanks.

  5. I have owned many different bag gloves in my life and these are the worst. The wrist support isn't that great and the padding over the knuckles is inferior to other bag gloves made by Everlast makes. Stiff and lacking wrist support.

5 comments about Bob XL.
  1. I own two of these BOB's (Body Opponent Bag) one BOB & one BOB XL. They are great to practice striking specific areas of the body at full power and speed. BOB is a great addition to the heavy bag or better yet Muay Thai bag that every martial artist should own and practice techniques against.

The BOB XL allows strikes to the upper leg area with kicks, knees and batons for police academy recruit training. The only limit is working the body all the way around 360 degrees, you can not work the rear body, but can work the rear of the head for chokes and strikes.

  2. I purchased the body opponent bag (not the XL) to provide motivation and to compare its function to my old reliable heavy bag...BOB is terrific...however, whereas the heavybag is solidly hit when struck, BOB requires a little more finesse...the head gives easily and does not provide the resistance of a heavy bag...but this is good! Additionally, there is at least one DVD available which provides other methods of attack. I find I can practice choke outs on BOB. Overall, I would highly recommend BOB as a tool to add to your boxing/self defense/exercise regimen. (This review was not based on the XL. I would prefer to have the XL, however the guy without the trunks was more affordable!)

  3. I'm not too big on free standing punching bags but the BOB is something special, a separate class all it's own. The rubber skin more closely emulates punching a real person than a regular heavy bag. It is comfortable to strike for long periods of time without requiring hand protection yet holds up to serious abuse from fists, feet, elbows, knees, or whatever you want to hit it with. Furthermore, the human-like shape really facilitates targeting. If you are purely a traditionalist you'll probably want a makiwara (striking post). If you're willing to embrace the best in a modern training tool, however, this mannequin bag makes a great investment. There are some really good BOB workouts in books like Loren Christensen's "Solo Training 2: The Martial Artist's Guide to Building the Core for Stronger, Faster and More Effective Grappling, Kicking and Punching." This is a fantastic training tool for any martial artist.

  1. a well made gi for a beginner in brazilian jiu jitsu. the grips on the collar aren't huge so you don't have people having iron fists on you, but strong enough to withstand a good jerking.

be careful though, I'm 5'9" and 160 pounds and I got a size 4. It was huge on me to begin with, but once I washed and machine dried it, it shrunk down to size.

the cuff of the pants sits on my ankles and the sleeves are about an inch short of my wrist.

  2. Great product! My son is five foot ten and weighs 160 pounds and a size 4 fits him perfectly after washing. This Gi will last him a long time since it is so well made. Product was shipped quickly.

  3. Excellent quality, good stong cloth, and understated color. The guys in my class commented on the high quality. I'm the only woman, so it's hard enough with my tiny judogi, but this makes me look a bit more formidable. It moves like armor at first and the lapels are very stiff, but it loosens up in the wash. It does shrink, thank heavens (looked like a happi coat on me at first). All in all, A-1 product.

  4. I was wondering what quality I'd get for the price. Even though it was less than a third of the price of other uniforms it appears to be excellent quality.

  5. What a wonderful product, it comes very large and shrinks a lot so people should take that into account when purchasing this item, I love it!
