  1. I'd been looking for a good, durable jump rope so my daughters could have more things to play outdoors when I came across these. They used to have these in my elementary gym classes and I loved them. They're sturdy, colorful and when you swing them they keep a better shape. I've already bought several of them. I would recommend also getting a book on jump rope rhymes. We have Anna Banana. They get exercise, fresh air, and wholesome fun. Who could ask for more?

  2. I recently was told I needed to lower my blood pressure,I like was told a great way to get the heart rate up was swimming ,running and jumping rope I decided to get a jumprope. This is a strong lightweight jumprope exactly like the ones used at many schools throughout the USA .It is exactly what I wanted it to be.I expect it to continue its usefulness for years to come.

  1. This is probably the best CD for children on the market. It is innovative, creative and educational. The words are clear, very understandable, and the music is lively to keep the attention of the children.

Anyone working with young children should have a copy of this CD in their library...it's a winner!

  2. Here is an easy and fun way to introduce your children to jump rope skills and exercise! Get the whole family involved!

  3. Best Early Childhood progressive rope jumping music I've ever heard.

  4. Who can sit still to the tune of Rowdy Ropes? I dare you! This CD is full of a number of songs which will become your all time favorites when working with young children. The vocalization is crisp. The tunes are lively. The children have ample time to resond to the singer's cues. This is great music to use in movement based programs as well as in the PE school arena.

After listening to the CD for the first time, I couldn't wait for my next gymnastic class to begin. The kids adored song #3, March Around Our Ropes. We performed Free Discovery during song #1, Rowdy Ropes - the tune kept the kids engaged in imaginative play. Each of their individual expressions were "correct!"

Thank you for designing a CD with such joyful, engaging, action songs.

  5. My daughter likes the cd, but it is just fast songs about jump roping. I thought it would be more chants to jump to.

5 comments about Tanita CJ-688-TB Jump Rope with Calorie Counter.
  1. I received the Tanita digital jumprope, battery was either not included or dead. I could not unscrew the battery cover, since the screw was some off the wall phillips thing that even my eyeglass repair screwdriver couldn't move. I plan on returning it unless I can find someone to open it.

  2. I had tried several times to develop facility with jumping rope, but I fatigued too easily and could never build stamina. I would jump for a minute or two or even three, but I would miss a jump and then feel like I had to start all over. Needless to say, I couldn't sustain a disciplined learning curve.

However, with this rope, I didn't have to worry about sustaining (or counting) a specific number of minutes of jumping...I could set myself a goal of xxx number of JUMPS, increasing that number each time, and thus develop the necessary stamina to make a jump rope workout as fun and effective as it should be. By setting a goal of JUMPS instead of TIME, it didn't matter how often I missed a jump...I could just start from where I stopped and the counter would keep clicking away. Even if every other jump was a miss (which wasn't actually the case), as long as I kept going, I could eventually reach my goal.

Well, not only was I able to build stamina and increase my jump goal each time, but the more regular attempts I was making (and persistence in going for my goal of xxx number of jumps) allowed me to develop the agility to jump longer with fewer misses. Before too long, I was actually a ROPE JUMPER!

I have bought other jump ropes--light "fast" ones, and heavier ones for more muscular development--and I enjoy each of them for the traits specific to them. But I never would have developed any jump roping skill at all if not for this terrific rope. I've had it now for a couple of years, and the battery has not run down, and I've never had any problem with rope tangling. Also, I am tall and it is hard to find jump ropes of sufficient length for me, but this one is comfortably long, (yet the length is adjustable and can be made shorter). I even bought one of these for another person and recommended it to still others.

All in all, a TERRIFIC jump rope! Viva Tanita!!

  3. Now that good weather has peaked around the corner, I have taken my Tanita jumprope out for a spin. I really like the fact that I can enter in my weight and it will not only count my jumps but also how many calories I burn. For me, this extra motivation keeps me going to the next level. I only really saw a couple drawbacks. Accidentally, I went past my weight and had to go all the way past 300 and then back back to the beginning to set, because the counter goes one way (and you only need to hold the button down, not press it 200 times), which does not actually take very long, and the rope occasionally tangles, not often, but sometimes, due to the type of rope it is. I find it quick, accurate and a nice change of pace. It it also burns calories fairly quickly (about 110-130 calories per 10 minutes for a person that is 150 lbs-slightly less for someone lighter, or more for someone heavier). I have had my rope for a couple years now and have yet to replace the battery. If you'd like a little change in your work out with the extra added incentive of having your jumps calories counted, this just might be what you are looking for.

  4. I gave this to my daughter for a Christmas gift. I don't know if she's used it yet, but she requested it and thought it'd be great. I think it's pretty 'pricey' for a jumprope.

  5. I have burned more calories trying to untangle the mess of plastic rope and adjust the length to work with my height than I ever have actually jump roping with this money waster. What a bummer.

  1. I bought the Aero-Speed to replace a BOA Weighted Speed Rope that I snapped after a year of heavy usage. Unfortunately, I could never get this rope to work for me. As even the five-star review on this page notes, the plastic cord is problematic...it will not ever straighten out. Even the positive in that well-written review ("The rope cord is fairly thin...offering minimum aerodynamic resistance") is something that caused me issues. I want a weighted rope with some meat to it. I could never generate any rythym, cadence or momententum with the Aero-Speed. With the BOA, I could get into a trance-like groove, pumping out 150 reps per minute. By contrast, I never even came close to a groove with the Aero-Speed.

So why the three stars for such a downbeat review? Well, the product is endorsed by champion jump-roper Buddy Lee. I'm sure the Aero-Speed works very well for him and it's out of respect for that knowledge. Let's face it, I'm fired up that I can max out at 175 reps per minute and The Reporter alludes to Mr. Lee perhaps being able to crank out 360. So, I think this is a situation where my skill level just can't maximize the effectiveness of this product.

For me, it's back to the BOA.

  2. In my search for the ultimate rope, I decided to try the Aero Speed. It's highly promoted on Buddy Lee's website, and I've heard positive reports from fellow enthusiasts.

I can't really elaborate on what the other reviewers wrote except I was displeased with the handles being 2 part assemblies (routinely unscrewing) and the chord being so easily kinked.

The lightweight handle assembly is very light indeed. The swivel system is unique (and appeals to me). The problem of unscrewing during a workout should be addressed during assembly, not after purchase.

I soaked the chord in boiling water to remove the kinks from packaging, but they returned easily and repeatedly from being stuffed (though loosely wound) into my gymbag.

As a speed rope, I rate this about par for the course. It definitely doesn't tangle when I cross, unlike other speed ropes I've tried.

  3. Today when I jumped rope I did 200@120rpm continuous skips before I just called it a "set". Later this evening I was leafing through Buddy Lee's book "Jump Rope Training" (also on Amazon and highly recommended) when I realized that in the last 3 years I had never achieved "basic proficiency" because I just couldn't make 140@60rpm let alone 140@120rpm continuous jumps. And so I gave up attempting to do the program; although I did continue to jump it was very sporadically. I jumped rarely in 2005 due to domestic issues. And I did not jump in 2006 when I was going through my divorce. I have made it my goal in 2007 to start jumping again because I really enjoy it. I have been smoke free for three years now. I am 37 years old (38 in April), so it is never to late to start jumping. And now I look forward to trying out some of the programs in the book now that my body has achieved a basic level of fitness after 20 years of smoking. Skipping rope is much more vigorous than most people realize and I reckon that most would be surprised at what a workout it really is. My goal is to be able to skip continuously for 15 minutes. There is not a faster/cheaper/easier full body workout that money can buy. And the Buddy Lee, Aero Speed jump-rope is the gold standard by which all other ropes are judged. I am nothing more than a very satisfied customer.

  4. If you're looking for the best lightweight speed rope on the market, this is it. I've been roping for more than a decade with my abilities and endurance increasing with every rope I've owned... And, I've owned them all. I jump thirty minutes a day, everyday as my warm-up routine and although the thin lightweight plastic rope doesn't completely straighten before I start to jump, it's irrelevant. If you're achieving the RPM's intended, the high speed RPM's of your roping straightens the thin plastic rope while roping... even if it looks bent after roping. This is an advanced rope, if you're not advanced, consider a different rope until you can maintain the speed... And speed you'll have with this rope. This rope makes high speed roping tricks a pleasure. When I first purchased the rope I did have a small problem with the handle unscrewing from the rope at the base of the handle. This was easily fixed by threading it back together after added liquid thread lock. No problem since. I suggest it to everyone once they've achived advanced abilities and an advanced endurance level.

  1. I'm not very happy with the digital display. I dont think its a very professional design. I find it slightly primitive. The handle bars and rope is not bad and quite comfortable. However, the rope could have been slightly stiffer.

  2. i love the hand pad. soft, yyeeaahh! the display is poor though! i would have gotten a plain jump rope, dang!

  3. I love this jump rope. It is easy to program and the display is clear. The rope doesn't bunch either. I would recommend it to anyone.
