  1. I bought another "speed" rope that had a really thick vinyl/plastic rope. That one worked great as long as I had shoes on. Problem is I jump on top of martial arts mats, where myself and others practice submission wrestling. You don't wear shoes on the mat. With no shoes on, the other rope stung like crazy if I messed up since it was so heavy, so I decided to pick up a new rope.

Enter this rope. It's a lot lighter, but seems to be made by the same company as the handles are identical. Adjusting the length requires a pair of pliers and a vice, or 2 pairs of pliers, or any creative means to bend the retaining metal that's bent around the leather rope in the handle. Have to bend the metal to free the rope, adjust it, cut off the excess, then re-bend the metal retainers back in place.

After that was done, I was quite happy with this rope. It requires a little more arm/wrist movement since it's not as heavy, but since I'm not a pro at jumping rope it's a lot more forgiving on the toes when I mess up. I'd recommend this rope over the heavier vinyl ropes if you're just starting out and not jumping rope like a boxer who's been at it for years, and you don't wear shoes while you jump. If you do wear shoes, it doesn't really matter which rope you choose in my opinion, since messing up won't hurt at all.

  2. I'm a beginner jump rope user, and was able to learn to use this leather jump rope with ease. No complaints whatsoever.

  3. I expected something different from this rope. It's very light so i can't jump properly on my carpet. I didn't try it yet outside. Maybe it will work better.

  1. I have two jump ropes -- this beaded one and a lighter, non-beaded cord. This one is faster and if it catches on your shoe, it won't completely stop you like the lighter more advanced ropes (which can be very irritating and could discourage the beginner). Easily adjustable and generally a fantastic way to stay fit even while you travel. And I do travel with it. Gets your heart rate up fast and keeps it there. You also need very little room for the exercise and it is quiet on carpet so it won't wake up the whole house or the hotel neighbor next door.

  2. This is just what I wanted. Came at a reasonable time. I am very happy.

  3. they are just ok, I would have rather bought one from the store, they are a rope with the plastic beads, they are black and white, not one soild color like i had thought. They say its adjustable but I have yet to figure out how

  4. It has a good weight and the grips are comfortable. That's all I can ask for in a jump rope.

  5. This is an excellent starter rope. Good for people just learning to jump rope (maybe for the first time as an adult). Easy to use, good weight makes it easier to keep form.

  1. These are great jump ropes. The plastic segments add enough weight and inertia to help keep the rope twirling. The segments in the middle that hit the ground take a lot of abuse and break easier than I expected. These would be 5-star items if not for the relatively brittle links.

  2. This rope was for my toddler (3) but we found the 7 foot length too long so we found other games to play with it til he grows in. Very sturdy and bright colors made it fun for him to play with.

  3. I've used this rope with young athletes during the course of promoting coordination and physical fitness. I've had no problems with the jump rope. It has proven to be durable so far while taking quite a lot of abuse. So far I've used it inside but it has held up fine.

  4. Perfect! Exactly what I wanted...just like the jump ropes found at the elementary schools. Great product, service & price!

  1. I have had great luck with my jump rope, and I've lost about 20 pounds since using it. My only complaint is that I wish it were a little longer, as I'm 6 feet tall.

The weights have really toned my arms and back. Jumping rope with a weighted belt is the most expedient form of exercise I have found. I can fit it in, even with a three-year-old.

I got into it after reading an articlethat many CEOs jump rope because it's fast, and the rope is portable. I also read that Madonna jumps 300 reps a day (it's surprisingly easy to work up to that number - you'll be shocked how easy!).

  2. Harbringer makes excellent products, this was definetly one of them. The weight of the rope is in the handles, which you can take some weight out or add some in. 2 pounds is the max though. For the price you can't beat it.

  3. I'm a power jumper, love this rope, able to do rope turns and many Ropesport moves (google Ropesport for DVDs teaching you how to jump like you've never jumped before)...only complaint is that the rope wears out, that's why I'm buying two at a time now...I'm hard on my rope, so I guess it's a sign of fitness that the rope gives out before I do...but wish it lasted longer. Highly recommended .. both the product, and the exercise, 55 yo and never felt better...with right music I can keep jumping for an hour.

  4. Rope works fine. I regularly do cross jumping, and the rope seems to stay in good form.

  5. I haven't had the time to use this much yet, but it has been great so far. I did not see any of the problems listed by other users. The added weight definitely helps

  1. Some of these ropes broke within 20 minutes of alowing the kids to play with them. Also they are so light that it is hard for the kids to learn with.

  2. I'm just now, over a year later, writing this review of this jump rope. And I'm pleased to say that it's STILL perfectly intact. When we were shopping for a jump rope for our 5 year old, we came accross this one, and were surprised at all the negative reviews these were getting, but took a chance and got it anyway. Well, looks like the validity of those negative comments can be written off as just angry online rantrs, because this jump rope hs been ued and abused and i till in great shape. We don't regret this purchase even in the slightest. :) :) :)

  1. i am purchasing a different rope today because this one does not allow for speed. if you like jumping slowly or whipping your arms really hard, this is the rope for you. but I do not enjoy it for doing fast jumps to warm up before a run. the connection is metal loop to metal loop, and squeeks a little between swings, which I also do not like.

  2. I got this today & was happy with it. However, I didn't like the metal links because they make a sound when skipping..
The handles were nice, but the rope material wasn't that good...

I think I paid a little too much for a plain jump rope with middle quality..

  3. I just wanted a simple jump rope, but now I kind of wish I hadn't gotten an actual ROPE. It's hard to get around (which, actually is okay because it's more exercise), and it's too long for me- I'm 5'7. It works though, and I was sore after the first day! Awesome!

  4. Not a very good jump rope for exercise. First off its fairly short. Not a problem for me, but I'm only 5'7". Anyone above the six foot mark will probably have trouble using it. My main problem with it is how light the rope itself is. Its very difficult to get this thing up to speed, which made it feel more like I was doing an arm exercise instead of cardio. That said, I guess it wouldn't be a bad "recreational" jump rope on a playground or something. Its fairly well constructed.

  5. My roommate bought us each one of these, because they were on sale (not on amazon). I didn't like how the handles were made because you can't choke up on the rope to make it shorter (as she is very short). We tried tying a couple knots in the rope, but she was over it. I'm 5'6" and it was still a little too long for me. I made it work anyway.

When I was actually using it, the hinges on the handles wouldn't turn every time, so the rope would get twisted. Every 45 seconds to a minute of jumping, I'd have to stop and untwist it. And then after a combined usage of maybe 15 minute, the hinges completely broke off the handle. My roommate let me use hers, and it had the same issues. It didn't take too long to break that one too.

We hadn't really thought to take them back, because the were on sale for super cheap (huh, wonder why), but I was perusing for a new jump rope and saw this, definitely not worth your money or annoyance.

  1. This jump rope was perfect for my kids. The wanted a rope for double dutch and this one works perfectly.

  2. Bought this as a double dutch jump rope. It's very hard to use the plastic cased jump rope. Would recommend an actual "rope" jump rope.

  3. My 11-yr old is getting into doing "Double Dutch" jump-roping with her friends. Loves it. Rec'd product in just a few days - Bueno.

  4. just incredible. the shipping was fast, the jumpropes are durable, work perfect, and it was dirt cheap!

  5. I bought this for my niece and she loves it. So far it's holding up well.

  1. These gloves and jump rope were exactly what I was hoping for. I got them mainly for the gloves, and I use them when I play a Wii cardio boxing game. The velcro is strong and the gloves do not move around on your hand when you punch. I was worried the jump rope might not fit me, as a length was not given, however I was pleased to discover that it was the perfect size for my height (I am 5'6").

I recommend this set and would buy it again.
