   I first thought that the sticks would be too hard to strike with or too padded for the true feel of impact. Not the case.
   
   The sticks are light weight, close enough to fighting weight, and padded just enough so that you and your sparring partner know and react accordingly to being hit without the broken bones and lacerations.
   
   A great tool to reinforce lessons.

1. Let me start off with saying I have ordered from this company before. I ordered a single pair (2pc) of the rattan sticks and they were some of the most durable sticks I have used. They were both 7/8" and weighed 230g and 190g. I am measuring with a precision caliper and am using an 11 lb food scale accurate to 1g. I have to approximate the weights of the first pair because I have tennis overgrips and electrical tape on one as a repair.
   
   My 8 piece order arrived today and I was excited to have a good number of sticks available for continued training. Anyone who puts some force behind their striking in Kali/Escrima/Arnis will go through sticks fairly quickly (a good pair every 2 months or so training twice a week). Although there are always sticks that are more or less durable even when bought in pairs, of my 2 best pairs one stick is almost too frayed to use and the other is almost like new.
   
   After removing the stick bundle from the box I was disappointed because just by sight I could tell not all the sticks were 7/8" or more. FOUR of them were 3/4" which is a BIG difference for this martial art. The measurements were taken at the THICKEST node, which often times only extends an inch or two up the stick where the rest of it tapers down. The four small sticks would be 3/4" or less where they are held. Here are the following stats ascending in weight.

   Short Conclusion:
   Beginners, ok. Intermediate, maybe. Advanced, look elsewhere.
   
   Conclusion:
   If you are looking for a pack of sticks with a drastic size difference of just over 1/4" instead of 1/8" this is fine. If you know what you like by now and are looking for specific sets of 7/8" to 1" sticks between 190g and 240g you may want to look elsewhere. If these were as advertised you would probably have better luck but it seems they allow too much leeway in their measurements. Buying these big packs make it a good price of $15 a pair, but if you only use half of them you lose the value. If this problem is addressed and fixed I will order again, if not I will stick with [...]

1. So far my kids have had good luck with this product in Tae Kwon Do. I would buy these again.



2. They are good for practice. They are not hardened, so they take a bit of abuse if you practice with others that have hardened sticks.



3. These are NOT made of rattan. They are oak or something hard and heavy, which is good for swinging around by yourself, but if you're sparring you need them to actually be made of rattan, that way you don't break the other person's stick. Rattan is also more flexible, so when it takes abuse it just tends to bend and not splinter into pieces.
   
   If you are going to spar, or hit sticks together in any way, look somewhere else.

1. Since the emergence of Bruce Lee, and the debut of Enter the Dragon, where in one fight scene, Bruce, intoduced the use of the Philipino double sticks as they were termed. The Philipino martial, known as Escrima utilizes this sticks, usually made of soft wood called rattan, for combative purposes. I recently purchased a a set these fighting sticks, called doce Pares, which in Spanish, means 12 pairs. Though, never formally trained, just practicing with them has demonstrated to the awesome power, these weapons possess. In the hands of an expert, these weapons, can make an assailant wish he stayed indoors. I mostly use mine, to limber up, and keep my body moving. There have many books written on the history and use of these weapons. Amazon carrys a number of these books. So what are you waiting for! Joe Scalise.

1. They are excellent for sparring and let both people know when you make a hit without leaving a mark. They have a good weight and feel. Could do without the dragon inked on them in gold, but it is already beginning to wear off with use.



2. These sticks are great for training, but not as good as they could be.
   The issue is the PVC pipe they use as a core. It should be stronger.
   Several times we had to replace the core with PVC tubing we got at the
   local hardware store.
   I found that if you take the gray PVC pipes used for watering systems,
   you will have a much more useful stick. With that, you can hit as hard as you want
   and not break the sticks, and you can do disarming, as well as stick assisted control holds.
   With the core it comes with, the tube bends, and breaks with any real force is placed on
   the stick.
   If you are tapping lightly, and not doing disarming, then these are perfect. I like the
   replacement cores we put in, to still train safely, but allow us to do more advanced
   techniques.
